When the leper woman gives birth to a child in the dead of the night, she rushes to fetch a torch and examine it, trembling with terror lest it look like herself.

Parents want their children to have it better than them. They want their progeny to have the opportunity to progress to a higher level. I wonder if some parents these days -- particularly those of the unwashed masses -- feel somewhat like the leper woman above.
