Getting Asked to the Dance By the Captain of the Football Team

Trey Smith

In the video clip featured below (at the 6:15 mark), satirist Bill Maher states that surveys show that one in four Americans believes that Jesus will return as part of the rapture in THEIR LIFETIME. He then says, "You see, that's religion: ego masquerading as humility."

His point is that, not only do these 1 in 4 Americans believe that Jesus will return in their lifetime, but the timing is because of people LIKE them. Jesus is coming back because OF them. As Maher points out, how arrogant can a person be?

What this belief says is that you think an awful lot of yourself. You think that God's "plan" revolves around you. Billions upon billions of human beings (not to mention other life forms) have populated this planet for thousands of years, but THEY aren't that important. YOU ARE.

Not only is God going to end his experiment while YOU are still with us, but Jesus is going to single you out to grasp his hand. In the shining moment of the rapture, Jesus is going to make you a star -- the greatest celebrity in the world! Because of YOUR favored status, YOU will lead the procession to the pearly gates.

And yet, if you talk to these one in four Americans, they will tell you that their belief is based on humility. They will tell you they are unworthy. They will tell you they are wretched sinners who will be saved solely based on God's grace.

But most of them don't really believe it! As mentioned above, they firmly believe they warrant a place at the head table. They firmly believe they won't be a face lost in the crowd -- Jesus will make a special effort to call them out by name and lead them to the front of the pack.

While most of them feel like nobodies in this world, Jesus specifically will single them out to be a SOMEBODY in the next world.

If that isn't the epitome of an overblown ego, I don't know what is!!!
