Tao Bible - Isaiah 32:7

The instruments also of the churl are evil: he deviseth wicked devices to destroy the poor with lying words, even when the needy speaketh right.
~ King James version ~

A truly good man is not aware of his goodness,
And is therefore good.
A foolish man tries to be good,
And is therefore not good.
~ from Verse 38 of the Tao Te Ching ~
I think that both passages speak to the idea that connivance leads us down the wrong path. When we make calculations as to what will get us in good stead, we've already missed the boat!
