In President Obama's remarks last night re the Bin Laden killing, he described the special operation as involving a "firefight." He then states that no Americans were harmed. I don't know about you, but this strikes me as incredible and unbelievable.
A firefight involves two sides exchanging small arms gunfire. Bin Laden has been portrayed as this bloody terrorist mastermind and it has been reported that he is always surrounded by well-armed bodyguards. Even in a surprise attack, one would think that his men would put up a fierce and determined fight, particularly because they knew our side would shoot to kill.
How is it that not one American was so much as nicked? How is it that all the dead and wounded were on the Bin Laden side?
This makes me think that "firefight" was not the accurate word to describe what might have really occurred.

They probably had pointy sticks... or worse, bananas (sorry Monty Python Joke)
ReplyDeleteActually, I don't think it matters that much since I'm not sure if it's true or not. I'm sure that BL is dead, though I wonder if he died years ago.
The timing of this news sounds more like the US attempting to pull out of the war/peacekeeping in Iraq and Afghanistan for one of three reasons;
1. To save the US from going bankrupt.
2. To gain favour for President Obama (people forget about the Birth Certificate really quick with this sort of news)
3. To allow the US to concentrate in their new hotspot - Libya.
or perhaps I'm just too cynical.
