Socrates: A Man With a Mission

Socrates: A Man With a Mission
by Scott Bradley

Socrates was a man with mission. Having heard that the Oracle of Delphi had declared him to be the wisest man in the world, he went to the Oracle himself to rectify the mistake. How could he, who knew that he knew nothing, be the wisest of men? The Oracle, however, confirmed her pronouncement.

Thus began Socrates' mission to discover someone wiser than he -- someone who actually knew something. Yet, though he questioned everyone from those considered the wisest to the common people of the street, he was never able to find anyone who really knew what he thought he knew.

Wisdom, apparently, is knowing you do not know.
