Humankind cannot manipulate Tao (or vice versa).

When things are going fantastically well OR everything is going to hell in a hand basket, Tao is not responsible. Calling upon Tao to increase our success or to save us from our misery won't change diddly-squat. While the Way is available for all to utilize, no one can manipulate Tao for their own selfish ends.
