And now it's time to visit the theater of the absurd. In a recent ruling handed down in the government's trial against Bradley Manning, the judge has ruled that a portion of Manning's incarceration was cruel and excessive. What does Manning win for this inhumane treatment? A 112 day reduction in whatever sentence ultimately is handed out.
What makes this reduction so absurd on its face is that many legal commentators believe that, if convicted, Manning will face life in prison without the possibility of parole. If this turns out to be the case, then how in the hell would a 112 day reduction be administered? Since no one knows when Manning's life might end, how can he be granted freedom for his final 112 days?
For Manning and his defense team, this ruling doesn't even rise to the level of a hollow victory. It is basically meaningless!
