I have often wondered what it will take for some people to start to get an inkling that global warming/climate change is real AND that human civilization plays a huge role in it. Many such individuals claim that the science is still out, that more research needs to be undertaken. These folks say they want incontrovertible proof that this or that event or occurrence is caused by global warming and nothing else.
What they say they want is, of course, an impossibility. A tornado will not drop out of the sky today bearing a signed statement from Mother Earth indicating that global warming is the culprit behind this particular storm! Nature doesn't work that way and they damn well know it.
Unfortunately, without this type of definitive "smoking gun," such folks will continue to claim that the real science of climate change is nothing more than an elaborate hoax created by "socialists" to defeat the American Way.
Even more unfortunate is my belief that this willful head-in-the-sand act will not abate anytime soon. It doesn't matter how many severe storms drop out of the sky or the level of devastation wrought. No amount of extreme highs and lows will change their perspective either. It won't matter how many floods, droughts, blizzards, earthquakes, hurricanes or tsunamis hit regions all over the world.
None of this will matter without a signed statement from god himself.
