Shame on Us

There have been times in the past in which a tragedy or calamity befell the US and some people in the Muslim world celebrated. What was the general reaction in this country? We were outraged!

Many Americans became so incensed that they have suggested we drop atomic bombs on such people -- wipe them off the face of the earth. These scenes have motivated others to volunteer to serve in the armed forces, so they can be part of the team that can extract retribution.

Knowing how we felt in these situations makes the response to the reported killing of Osama Bin Laden by many in the US absolutely shameful!! The big crowds and almost festive atmosphere most likely enrages Bin Laden's supporters just as much as we have been outraged before.

Some of them will call for us to be wiped from the face of the earth. Some will be motivated to volunteer for a terrorist group or, maybe, to become a suicide bomber.

It is one thing to be pleased that an accused killer has been rounded up by the authorities, but it's quite another thing to sing praises and do chest bumps when another human being has been gunned down.

I know many people will say the man deserved it -- that he showed no mercy for the people he has purportedly killed -- but if we show no mercy as well, then how are we any different?

  1. That's right, Rambling.

I agree with you completely. There is a difference between justice, and a thirst for revenge.

Prayers for all those who lost loved ones on 9/11, and prayers also for the soul of Osama Bin Laden.

    Becky.
