Unlike God, Tao is impartial. Tao neither created nor supports goodness or evil. Both rely on valuation (which is the sole province of humankind).

ReplyDeleteWhich suggests that the God and Satan of the OT were human constructions, established by people trying to define a relationship with the divine.
ReplyDeleteAlso re: nihilism. The aim of being in tune with Tao is that "goodness" comes naturally.
Hmm. I've just been thinking about Job lately (not in a literal reading, naturally). The book's lesson, I think, boils down to "shit happens. Deal with it."
