Tao Bible - Job 1:6

Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.
~ King James version ~

Tao is neither good nor evil.
~ possible Taoist alternative ~
This represents the first time in the Old Testament in which Satan, the fallen angel, appears.

Unlike God, Tao is impartial. Tao neither created nor supports goodness or evil. Both rely on valuation (which is the sole province of humankind).

  1. Isn't nihilism a valuation too. ;-)

  2. Which suggests that the God and Satan of the OT were human constructions, established by people trying to define a relationship with the divine.

Also re: nihilism. The aim of being in tune with Tao is that "goodness" comes naturally.

  3. Hmm. I've just been thinking about Job lately (not in a literal reading, naturally). The book's lesson, I think, boils down to "shit happens. Deal with it."
