Tao Bible - 2 Chronicles 15:7

Be ye strong therefore, and let not your hands be weak: for your work shall be rewarded.
~ King James version ~

The ambition for rewards is bound up in our ego-stoked desires.
~ possible Taoist alternative ~
A prophet tells King Asa that, if he and his people endeavor to follow the commandments of the Lord, they will be rewarded.

Why do you seek praise and acknowledgment? It is because your ego has the desire for the external approval of others. External criteria changes, often on the slightest whim. What may be considered praiseworthy one day may not be praiseworthy the next. What is deemed as good by one society may be deemed detrimental by another.

The sage does what needs to be done and then walks away. What could a sage need beside what is sufficient for the situation or circumstance?
