Bright Eyes

It seems I was blindsided by one of those 24-hour bugs that always are afoot. I was going along fine and then WHAM! Congestion, sore throat, coughing, sneezing and fever. The main symptoms were rough for about 24 hours and, since then, each has begun to lessen a great deal and the fever is history.

Unfortunately, I'm still a day or two away from feeling like my "good 'ol self" because of one of my idiosyncrasies when it comes to illness -- I don't sleep. I have been awake for the better part of 3 days -- I've slept soundly for maybe 4 of the the last 72 hours. So, I am decidedly "punch drunk" right now.

I've been in bed for the lion's share of the past 3 days, but every time I start to nod off, I jerk awake. It has something to do with vertigo, but neither my doctor nor I seems to know what causes it.

Anyhow, I will start to make vast improvements once I'm able to get some sleep. The cobwebs will start to melt away from me brain. As you can probably tell from this post, I'm still in a bit of a fog. ;-)

  1. whenever i get those initial onset symptoms of flu or cold, i take sambucol, a commercial product made from elderberries. i have been very impressed with the results for myself.

i know many proponents of herbal remedies have only anecdotal evidence, but there are double blind studies that support this rememdy (one of the free articles, noted below) which is what originally prompted me to try sambucol/elderberry remedies:

(if you're interested in herbal or other natural remedies, herbalgram seems to have a real scientific background to what they do. i don't subscribe myself, but i know someone who does, and have asked them for info a time or two.)

you can also make your own elderberry syrup, if you prefer that to a commercial product.

    hope you get better soon.
