This is the ninth biblical commandment. God tells us that lying is a sin.

By and large, I think most Taoists would go along with the basic tenor of the 9th commandment. Dishonesty tends to be rooted in desire. That said, there should be no hard and fast rule in this area simply because, in some circumstances, a fib or a lie may be appropriate for the situation.
