Wen Tzu - Verse 150, Part I

from Verse One Hundred Fifty
A whale out of water is overrun by ants...
~ Wen-tzu: Understanding the Mysteries ~
In nature, everything has its place! A whale could not live out of water and those ants would die in the ocean.

By the same token, each of us has our own nature. A shy person often falters in social situations, while a social person may go mad in solitude. While there are certain things about ourselves that can be adapted and improved, the primary nature of each individual is something that shouldn't be tinkered with. We often meet with disaster and suffering when we try to pretend we are something that we are not.

  1. i definitely agree with this. the problem for me is understanding what "niche" i thrive in. right now i seem like a platypus... not fish, not land animal, just kind of an oddball. i can't say definitively where i belong.
