Record High

While most of the continental United States is gripped in the throes of a severe deep freeze, the weather in South Bend today has been delightful. Far from being cold, we set a record high temperature of 60 degrees! To make it even better, it was sunny almost the whole day.

I can tell you that this has been an atypical late autumn-winter for us thus far. In November, we recorded over 2 feet of rain -- a little less than twice the norm. In December, rainfall only equaled 7.35" which is about 5.5" below normal. So far in January, we're about on track as rainfall is concerned, piling up about 4.5".

Back in December, we had a week of temps from the low teens to about freezing. Since that point, the temps have been running 5 - 10 degrees above normal. For example, the average high for today is 45 degrees and we exceeded that by 15 degrees.

The projected forecast for the week ahead has us in a continued warmer than normal stretch. If we continue on at this rate, this may be one of those winters in which we see no snow.

    Well, I certainly hope so...aloha-ha-ha!

  2. Southern British Columbia has so far had very little snow too. Quite mild and normally rainy.
I enthusiastically await a snowstorm, but accept I may be left merely damp.
