Wen Tzu - Verse 70

from Verse Seventy
Even if a land is large, if it is militaristic it will perish. Even if a nation is secure, if it is warlike it is in peril. Therefore a small country with few people may have weapons but not use them.
~ Wen-tzu: Understanding the Mysteries ~
We should remember that the legendary Lao Tzu did not live in peaceful times! He lived during the "Warring States" period of Chinese history. Feudal lords were duking it out amongst themselves and much of the peasantry was paying the ultimate price.

Looking back through the annals of history, every warring nation ultimately perishes. It doesn't matter what period of history we're speaking of, it's a hard and fast rule. Too bad the leaders of the government of the United States aren't history buffs!

This post is part of a series. For an introduction, go here.

  2. Tom,
Good point. However, in defense of the average voter, they don't have very good choices to choose from.

  5. The people really pulling the string are well aware that the nation will not last. It's even their intention.

It is in their plans to dissolve all borderlines eventually.
