Wen Tzu - Verse 24, Part II

from Verse Twenty-Four
The idealized leaders of antiquity did different things but with the same intentions, they took different roads to the same goal.
~ Wen-tzu: Understanding the Mysteries ~
For me, this is a very important sentence. It underscores the notion that there is never one singular path to any shared destination. While many may embrace the Way, how it manifests itself in each of us will be different.

What Lao Tzu is offering is NOT a map; it's more like the key that explains the symbols used on a map. He's showing us various landmarks that we can use as a reference points on our journey, but each of us must decide which route we're going to take.

  1. For some reason after reading this, something Richard Brautigan said comes to mind. "All of us have a place in history. Mine is clouds."
