Dream a Little Dream of Me

When I was younger, I dreamed all the time -- some may say too much! Over the past decade, however, the dreams went away. Now, it rarely happens.

I've often wondered why. Maybe I've grown more cynical through the years. It might be as the result of my fibromyalgia. I no longer sleep well and five consecutive hours is about my limit these days. I recently read that many folks afflicted with fibro suffer from a sleep disorder that doesn't allow them to enter deep sleep, thereby, no opportunity to dream.

In many ways, it may be just as well. My dreams were always sort of weird because I rarely saw faces in my dreams -- that's connected with AS.

With no dreams, I just take each day as it comes and hope I muddle my way through it. :>D

  1. Ok once again you say something I just have to comment on… I really wish you would stop that! =)

I think it has to do with you not going into a deep sleep. It could also be age, if you are old, I don’t know how old you are yet. I’m 34. I usually have more then one dream a night and I remember almost all of them. Some I still remember to this day. I usually wake up every morning my boyfriend has coffee made and I tell him what my dream was about that night. They are usually weird and surreal. I dream I’m other people, I dream I’m a guy, I dream of other people but they usually don’t look like the people. I don’t usually remember faces all that much, my dreams almost have a blurry feel, but they don’t seem blurry at the time.

My favorite dreams are tornados. I seem to have some subconscious fascination with them because I’ve had about 20 dreams of tornadoes in my life. I think they are the coolest thing and I love watching footage of them. In my dreams there are always lots of them, sometimes everywhere I look there is a funnel cloud. I’ve been sucked up by them too, but I usually go black or I wake up and roll over :) I’ve dreamt I’ve died about 10 times, in all kinds of ways. I dream I’m a man and I have fun with it. I dream I’m driving a car, but usually the brakes don’t work right. I dream I can fly but I just can’t get the right lift going. I have weird dreams but most of the time they are really fun.

I have a bit of a sleep disorder. I used to take me hours before my mind would let me fall asleep. As a kid I used my imagination to keep me from dying of boredom and I think that may have affected my dreams. I’ll play out situations I wish I was in, arguments and how I’d have done them better. I’ll try to put myself into a movie or TV show I like, but I’m not very good at having the characters interact back with me so I usually try to do something and then I’ll think, “no wait I should do this” and start from the beginning.

Anyways I ended up not sleeping long enough and would fight with whoever woke my up, it put a lot of strain between me and my Father who was an up early and work kinda guy. A friend of me recommended a drug to me. I’m not one to use sleeping pills, I don’t like the feeling I get, they usually don’t work on me and I just feel groggy in the morning, but this isn’t a sleeping pill, it’s more like an anti-depressant but it makes me feel like a normal tired person going to bed and falling asleep, something I really have never done naturally. I get up in the morning and I feel great. It has completely changed my life for the better. I don’t want to recommend it to you or anything like that, but if you are interested you can email me. :)

  2. I'm 51. I'm a bit phobic when it comes to pills, so I probably would't take one even if it might be beneficial. :)

  3. I can understand that. Jamie won't take pills either unless it is totally nessisary.
