This reminds me of an interesting episode of House,M.D. when Wilson informs a guy that he doesn't really have the cancer he diagnosed earlier. The patient is PISSED...he'd just sold his house, made travel plans, was excited about living. He sort of died when he realized he wasn't about to die.
