Follow the middle; go by what is constant, and you can stay in one piece, keep yourself alive, look after your parents, and live out your years.

Staying away from the edges is good advice, but the problem we naturally face is figuring out the parameters of life.

How long is the playing field? How wide is it? Where does start or end? Without knowing these answers, it can be hard to figure out the middle ground.
