1) imagine you are served food for thousands of years in (naturally antibacterial) banana leaf and the habit in all of those years culturally was to just throw your waste aside for nature to deal with. then plastic comes along.
2) plastic waste on the ground has become so bad in many areas, feet thick, that water can not drain away naturally. they have to drill holes deep into the ground to give water chance to drain.
