Hunger and poverty have been ubiquitous throughout human history. From near the very beginning some groups and individuals amass more than they could ever use, while others are afforded not enough just to survive.

Jesus purportedly said that the poor will always be with us -- what some people might consider a flippant comment for the suffering and misery many people are forced into. Why must there be poverty?
