he learns what (other men) do not learn,

How often do we start down a road with a definitive expectation of what we will find along the route. As we make our way, we encounter factors and variables that we didn't plan for. We find obstacles or new opportunities that don't fit into our preconceived notions.

When this happens -- as it invariably does -- we have two options: 1) Like a horse wearing blinders, we can disregard any new information that does not fit into our worldview or 2) We can take in this new information and alter our course or draw up a new plan, if appropriate.
