Line by Line - Verse 62, Line 11

Was it not because it could be got by seeking for it, and the guilty could escape (from the stain of their guilt) by it?
~ James Legge translation, from The Sacred Books of the East, 1891 ~

Isn't it because you find what you seek and are forgiven when you sin?
~ Gia-fu Feng and Jane English translation, published by Vintage Books, 1989 ~

Is it not said that those who seek will find,
And those with guilt will not be faulted?

~ Derek Lin translation, from Tao Te Ching: Annotated & Explained, published by SkyLight Paths, 2006 ~

Because when you get right with Tao,
you can always find
what you need to get by,

~ Ron Hogan rendition, from Beatrice.com, 2004 ~
We would like to think that the universe will pardon us for our transgressions. When it comes to ourselves and OUR lives, we believe fervently in second, third, fourth and fifth chances. When it comes to others, however, we too often hold to the notion of one strike and you're out.

Funny how that works.
