For the LORD hath redeemed Jacob, and ransomed him from the hand of him that was stronger than he.This sure is an odd story, don't you think? God is upset with the Israelites, so he instructs the king of Babylonia to go to war with them and to carry their survivors back as captives. Now, he claims he will pay ransom to the Babylonians to set free the Chosen People. Weird!
~ King James version ~
Tao doesn't pay ransom.
~ possible Taoist alternative ~
[Note: Some may point out that this story is actually a precursor to the trials and tribulations of a certain Jewish carpenter. Maybe it is and maybe it isn't -- but the framework of THAT story is just as odd!)
Tao doesn't meddle in human affairs. The Way doesn't cause people to be taken captive nor to pay a later ransom for their release.
