Tao Bible - Jeremiah 6:21

Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will lay stumbling blocks before this people, and the fathers and the sons together shall fall upon them; the neighbor and his friend shall perish.
~ King James version ~

When the great Tao is forgotten,
Kindness and morality arise.
When wisdom and intelligence are born,
The great pretense begins.
~ from Verse 18 of the Tao Te Ching ~
In many ways, these snippets are not that dissimilar. When we turn from God or the Way, we become estranged. The chief difference between the Bible verse and the portion of TTC is that the former states that God will place hurdles in our way, while the latter suggests we construct the hurdles ourselves.
