Line by Line - Verse 49, Line 7

and to those who are not sincere (with me), I am also sincere;
~ James Legge translation, from The Sacred Books of the East, 1891 ~

I also have faith in people who are not faithful.
~ Gia-fu Feng and Jane English translation, published by Vintage Books, 1989 ~

Those who do not believe, I also believe them
~ Derek Lin translation, from Tao Te Ching: Annotated & Explained, published by SkyLight Paths, 2006 ~

and they have faith in the unfaithful.
~ Ron Hogan rendition, from Beatrice.com, 2004 ~
To continue with John Lash's thought from yesterday,
This faith is not something that can be turned off or on but arises from human nature.
In other words, regardless what each of us believes, the person of Tao holds to the notion that all things will wind up in the same place, when all is said and done.
