Line by Line - Verse 45, Line 8

Constant action overcomes cold;
~ James Legge translation, from The Sacred Books of the East, 1891 ~

Movement overcomes cold.
~ Gia-fu Feng and Jane English translation, published by Vintage Books, 1989 ~

Movement overcomes cold
~ Derek Lin translation, from Tao Te Ching: Annotated & Explained, published by SkyLight Paths, 2006 ~

When it's cold,
you can move around to stay warm.

~ Ron Hogan rendition, from Beatrice.com, 2004 ~
I don't think this line needs much explanation. When your hands are cold, what do you do? You rub them together! The movement generates heat...which dispels the cold.
