Guest Post: Go Back Before You Move Forward

Go Back Before You Move Forward
by Shawn Tedrow

Our forward moving actions are mostly robotic, in nature. We talk, write, act, thinking that we are actually freely thinking. But it unconsciously is all an impulsive unaware movement based upon historical emotional subjective memory stored within. So there are two paths before us to choose from. One that just continues along having our impulsive thoughts running our lives or another that reverses this course.

There is a problem though that we are emotionally addicted to our history as it has fearfully linked us together as if our history is who we are. We do not want to lose who we think we are so all sorts of beliefs and cover-ups of intense clamping down occur. A belief system is postulated to conform to our subjective history that we are emotionally attached to. We are held hostage to seeing only through our finite limited eyes. This indeed is Maya- illusion at work.

Zen potentially offers us a way to go in reverse through self-knowledge (awareness of self) that dissolves our history. If there is no history, who am I?
