Climate change has already caused major disasters in food production through increasingly extreme and erratic weather patterns. Experts estimate that the food system, which is run by fossil fuels, contributes up to half of all greenhouse gas emissions.While learning about climate change/global warming certainly is a good thing -- though it's hard to imagine that most of the people in the world don't already possess, at least, a working knowledge of the concept -- DOING something about it is long past due.

If we continue to fritter away the time, irreparable damage may be done and, while we most likely won't damage the planet itself too badly -- we will render it inhospitable for things like HUMAN life. If things get to that point sometime in the future, hunger and poverty may be the least of our worries!!
In the meantime, as our seasonal patterns are disrupted, we stand a very good chance of insuring that poverty and hunger will visit more and more people in the days ahead. As agriculture production is damaged and important resources become scarce, there will be a mad dash amongst the capitalists to claim what little is left. In other words, the specter of countless wars looms large.
Nations at war breed poverty as more and more of the country's financial resources are dedicated to the war effort. Of course, the countries under assault are devastated and poverty becomes widespread.
