Time for Some Spin

The big day of recall elections in Wisconsin has come and gone. The GOP was able to hold onto 4 out of 6 seats. Understandably, the Democrats are trying to convince anyone who will listen that, though they didn't win as many seats as they had expected, they are pleased with the results.

Let's get real. This is a devastating result as far as liberals and progressives are concerned. This historic vote was supposed to serve as a repudiation of Governor Scott Walker's ultra-conservative agenda and yet that repudiation didn't come. The Right held onto their majority. No wonder GOP leaders are overjoyed -- they beat back the challenge.

The biggest message to come out of the recall elections is one we already knew: Playing dirty nets political victory.

In poll after poll, Americans say they don't like dirty politics and yet, in election after election, both parties engage in it. And they will continue to employ it until voters quit rewarding them for their slimy and underhanded ways.

In the recall elections, a variety of conservative groups engaged in a lot of high jinx that have been reported widely in the press. TV ads spread vicious lies and mailers provided faulty absentee ballot application date deadlines and false P.O. boxes. The groups utilized these sorts of techniques and strategies because they tend to be very effective.

It only goes to prove that the majority of voters are schizophrenics. They say they want to live in the real world, but they vote at the behest of the nasty voices they allow to be stuffed into their heads!
