Tao Bible - Ecclesiastes 12:7

Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
~ King James version ~

Be at one with the dust of the Earth.
~ from Verse 56 of the Tao Te Ching ~
Regardless of who or what we are in this plane of existence, at the end of the day, we merge with the dust. This is just as true for the powerful ruler or the feted celebrity as its is for the beggar or the transient. We each are made of the same elements that we see blow by us in the wind!

  1. But, is it true? Are we merely our bodies, atoms in some Cartesian space? What of Self? What of consciousness?

  2. Brandon,
By the way you framed your questions, it seems to me -- correct me if I'm wrong -- you are focusing solely on physical properties. Do other life forms have their own sense of self and/or consciousness? If so, then I would guess we share these elements in common too.
