Dirty Tricks

I understand that there are a lot of different political perspectives in this country. There are several I vehemently disagree with, but I respect people with different perspectives as long as they are honest and put their cards on the table where everyone can see them. By engaging in an honest and respectful debate, each person is afforded the opportunity to see which perspective makes the most sense to them.

However, I have a real problem with people who, on the one hand, say that their perspective makes the most sense, while on the other hand, they employ deceitful methods to try to win the day. If you truly believe that your political position is the best one around, why utilize dirty tricks?

Information is coming out of Wisconsin that a few GOP-backed organizations -- particularly Americans for Prosperity (AFP) -- are engaging in very deceptive methods in regards to the recall elections slated for August 9. According to ThinkProgress, AFP is mailing to suspected Democratic Party voters a letter that looks like an absentee ballot application.
The “Absentee Ballot Application Processing Center” P.O. Box listed on the last page of the mailer is registered to the Wisconsin Family Action PAC, a right-wing advocacy group, not an election board or actual absentee ballot processing center for the state of Wisconsin.
Not only does the fake application list an incorrect return address, but it indicates that the election is on August 11, not the 9th.

While the group that sent out this dubious mailer wants you to believe that all the "errors" are mere typos, it is rampantly obvious that this is not the case! AFP is hoping to dupe a lot of unsuspecting voters into not being able to vote.

What should these dirty tactics tell us? It says loudly that AFP doesn't believe it can sell its message legitimately AND that they believe the only way they can win is through deception. If being dishonest is the only way they hope to come out on top, then that should cause the average voter to be suspicious of the perspective they are trying to peddle!
