Tao Bible - Proverbs 29:15

The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.
~ King James version ~

The sage is shy and humble - to the world he seems confusing.
Others look to him and listen.
He behaves like a little child.
~ from Verse 59 of the Tao Te Ching ~
Here we find a sentiment that far too many fundamentalist Christians embrace: You must beat sense into children. Left to their own devices, Satan will take hold and their souls will be lost.

Lat Tzu has a completely different take on childhood. We are born in tune with the Way and we grow out of tune as we allow society to unteach us what we intuitively already knew! This is why the ancient sage tries to nudge us to return to the state of a newborn.
