Patter Talk

When I was in Norway one of the Norwegian politicians sat next to me at a dinner and said, “You know, there’s one good thing that President Obama has done that we never anticipated in Europe. He’s shown the Europeans that we can never depend upon America again. There’s no president, no matter how good he sounds, no matter what he promises, we’re never again going to believe the patter talk of an American President. Mr. Obama has cured us. He has turned out to be our nightmare. Our problem is what to do about the American people that don’t realize this nightmare that they’ve created, this smooth-talking American Tony Blair in the White House."
~ from Wall Street’s Euthanasia of Industry by Michael Hudson ~
Remember when everybody was talking about how former President George W. Bush was destroying American credibility in the eyes of the world? It now appears that President Obama has done him one better!

Europe is upset with him. The Arab world likes him even less than Bush. The Russians and Chinese don't think too well of him either. His "Audacity of Hope" mantra has turned out to be a big thud.

The Norwegian politician is right. Far too many of the American sheeple have no idea the damage the Obama administration is doing to our standing in the world. Once our economy finally implodes and whoever is president goes looking for help, you can be assured that the rest of the world will respond with glee as they stick it to us.

Worst of all, we will deserve it. We're the ones responsible for electing these "nightmares."

  1. In Australia's last federal election, I didn't fill my paper in because they didn't provide any suitable candidates.

I wasn't the only one and we ended up with a hung parliament. A clear sign from the people if you ask me.

In the end, the independent parties were able to sell out their loyalties to the highest bidder and our current PM is far far worse than the last two.

We all had a knee-jerk reaction to Iraq and voted people who seemed to be "nice" and "less warlike".

Unfortunately, none of the "nice" people have any idea of how to run a government.

You can't blame the American people for choosing poorly when like us, all they were given were poor options to choose from.

  2. While I agree with you 100%, I would point out that the vaaunted Europeans are heading off the cliff themselves. China is an ecological catastrophe. India is a social disaster outside a few cities. And, the Arab countries...a collection of corrupt kleptocracies in economic and social decay, some of which
are propped up by resource extraction industries.

So...plenty of problems all around. I'm no American Exceptionalist, but..Greece...Ireland...Spain...
    Italy...who next?
