The "Other" Side

Last night Keith Olbermann returned to the public airwaves as his Countdown program made its debut on Current TV. I thought it was a good first show and I look forward to a long run.

There is one critique of Olbermann's style that baffles me to no end. Several commentators and pundits have skewered Keith for years because he tends to feature only liberal or left-leaning guests and contributors on his program. From the standpoint of these critics, the legitimacy of his perspective is lessened because he doesn't allow guests and contributors from the "other" side.

I don't know if these folks are asleep at the wheel, but the "other" side dominates almost every other TV news program in the mainstream media! In fact, few such programs feature ANY liberal or left-leaning viewpoints at all. About the best a viewer can expect from MSNBC, CNN or any of the network stations is a centrist or moderate Democrat who the screaming meemies on the Right paint as some diabolical socialist taking orders from Stalin's dead brain!

You want to hear the blather of the right-wing apologists braying for endless war and the desperate need to give the egregiously wealthy tax cut after tax cut while gutting spending for everyone else? You can have your fill and then some by turning on Faux Nooz or watching NBC's Meet the Press or CBS's Face the Nation.

Countdown with Keith Olbermann is the one place we aren't forced to listen to this endless dribble. And I applaud him for that.
