Tao Bible - Proverbs 10:27

The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.
~ King James version ~

Forces -- often those beyond our control -- determine the longevity of this life.
~ possible Taoist alternative ~
Solomon advises that the pious shall have long lives, while the evil will not.

While most Taoists wouldn't argue with the general idea they we often reap what we sow, it certainly isn't as easy as that. There are many forces in the cosmos -- weather, for one -- that can end the life of a sage in the blink of an eye.
