Bumming for God

We know that many on the Religious Right are among those who support the draconian measures proffered by Republicans and Democrats in Washington DC and in statehouses across the country. The thrust of these initiatives is to shrink government by attacking public sector unions, the poor, the disabled and the elderly as well as gut the public infrastructure.

The mantra of such folks is "Cut, cut, cut" and "Get rid of the handouts."

So, it's rather ironic that many of these same folks in Kentucky are asking for a handout for, of all things, of a creationist theme park! And it looks like they are going to get it!
Plans for the construction of a "creationist theme park" in Kentucky are moving right along, with the state's tourism board on Thursday granting the project $43.1 million in tax incentives.

The theme park -- dubbed Ark Encounter -- is backed by both Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear (D) and Answers is Genesis, a Christian organization that also built a similar attraction, the Creation Museum.

"This was the last real hurdle for us as far as I'm concerned," Mike Zovath, co-founder of Answers in Genesis, told the Associated Press.

The tax incentives could subsidize up to 25 percent of the project. As part of the incentives, the state would return the sales tax on costs such as food, admission and gift sales. In order to qualify for tax incentives, the park must meet certain attendance requirements...
Hey, we don't want to pay teachers and janitors a fair wage, but God needs all the economic help he can get.

Apart from the utter hypocrisy of the park's backers as well as the politicians who are going along with it, why are they looking to government to help finance this project anyway? Have their prayers gone unanswered? Is God stonewalling them?

They want to celebrate this supposedly all-powerful being, yet they need the help of their fellow earthly citizens to get the job done.

I don't know about you, but if God is all he's cracked up to be, why doesn't he rain financing like manna down from the sky?
