64 - The Everyday Mundane

What is it like to feel Tao? It is an effortless flowing, a sweeping momentum. It is like a bird song soaring and gliding over a vast landscape.
~ from 365 Tao: Daily Meditations, Entry 64 ~
Ever notice how birds don't need an extra special occasion to sing their songs? I've heard these songs at sunrise, mid-morning, midday, in the evening and at dusk. I've heard them on bright sunny days and overcasts ones as well. I've heard them in the rain and wind.

We could learn a thing or two from birds. Finding Tao, God, Allah or Mother Earth doesn't take special effort. We don't have to go inside a particular building. We don't have to pray, chant or meditate. We don't have to wait for certain days or gather with other people. We really don't have to do anything...except be aware.

The Grand Mystery is all around us. It permeates us. In fact, each one of us is part of it.

Want to feel Tao in your life?

Breathe.

  1. So the air we breath is God, eh? After all, when when can't get it, we die. Interesting. (Oh, I know it isn't that simple.)

  2. Of course, it's not just the air. The point is that every movement and every moment -- those mundane and not so mundane aspects of life -- all of it is Tao (or God, Allah, etc.).
