The Simple Way, Part 66

The Simple Way
The Life & Teachings of Zhouzi
by Scott Bradley

A Confucian asked, “Master, speaking of the original nature, Confucius said, ‘Hold fast and you preserve it; let it go and you lose it.’ How in your way does one recover and preserve his original nature?”

“I know of no other nature than the one I presently ‘have’. But if you would find the root of you, it dwells somewhere between ‘I’ and ‘me’.

“But Master, this is but an emptiness which the self does span!”

“You have found it,” replied Zhouzi. “Now to preserve it, let it be.”
