Tao Bible - Job 5:2

For wrath killeth the foolish man, and envy slayeth the silly one.
~ King James version ~

Through anger, we consume ourselves from the inside out.
~ possible Taoist alternative ~
Eliphaz makes this declaration while trying to console Job (who has been beset with boils all over his body).

Anger tends to be kindled when a situation conflicts with our expectations. Being ever desireless, anger has no place to take root.

  1. True. To a point. I believe in a "righteous anger," if you'll accept the phrasing. You know, anger at real outrages: war, clearcutting, extinction, genocide, and so on. Anger is a healthy emotion, and natural. It carries great energy and allows one to act, rather than freeze in despair.

But first you have to have clear sight, by being centered, so that you can understand the difference between ego-anger (not getting what you expected) and righteous anger, which is appropriate.

  2. This reads like one of those places (an intersecting highway, perhaps) where the wisdom in both traditions synchs.
