Tao Bible - 2 Chronicles 9:22

And king Solomon passed all the kings of the earth in riches and wisdom.
~ King James version ~

True wisdom teaches that material riches are of no importance compared to supreme virtue.
~ possible Taoist alternative ~
We're led to believe that material wealth and wisdom go hand-in-hand.

The sage knows when enough is enough. When a person has more than they need, it becomes a burden that impedes the growth of wisdom. This is not to suggest that a person should seek poverty; the desire for poverty is just as wrongheaded as the desire for riches.

It is when we temper our desires for external trivialities and we move beyond contrivance that we come more in line with Tao.
