The Life & Teachings of Zhouzi
by Scott Bradley
Addressing the assembly, Zhouzi said, “There was a woman who dreamed she was falling through the sky. In terror she grasped at clouds, but they could not hold her up. The white ones, the black ones, they all proved the same. First she despaired, then was resigned to her fate. Then daring to look below, she saw only more sky and wondered if she was falling at all. Yet falling or rising or floating, what difference did it make? Suddenly she was joyously flying on the all-affirming wings of Trust!”
“This way that I teach,” he continued, “grasps at no beliefs. We vanish into Mystery through surrender in Trust. And this Trust arises as an expression of life; we no more ‘do’ it than we give ourselves life.”
“Tomorrow I would hear your parables expressing this experience — from those who have had it,” he concluded.
