The Simple Way, Part 35

The Simple Way
The Life & Teachings of Zhouzi
by Scott Bradley

Zhouzi asked a monk, just returned from a visit to his home in a distant district, how it had gone.

“Master, I was much chagrined to find people who call themselves monks worshipping stone buddhas and deceiving the people! And when I confronted a priest, he claimed to be enlightened!”

“And why might he not?” replied Zhouzi. “The path to unity is no special path. If is follows only from knowing ‘the truth’, then for us all the gate will forever be shut. Good fortune comes both to the kind and the mean. A ‘wrong’ way is as likely to success as a ‘right’. Life is much too messy for those who know ‘truth’.”
