Tao Bible - 1 Chronciles 20:3

And he brought out the people that were in it, and cut them with saws, and with harrows of iron, and with axes. Even so dealt David with all the cities of the children of Ammon. And David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.
~ King James version ~

Tao is not vengeful.
~ possible Taoist alternative ~
After defeating the armies of the Ammonites, King David's forces sought revenge on the general population and slaughtered the inhabitants of their cities.

Lao Tzu reminds us that,
A good winner is not vengeful.
Vengeance creates resentment and a desire for retaliation from the defeated side. It builds a wall of separation that can exist for hundreds or thousands of years. It is a barrier to the harmony of all which is the embodiment of Tao.
