The Simple Way, Part 13

The Simple Way
The Life & Teachings of Zhouzi
by Scott Bradley

A monk was sent from a distant monastery and approached Zhouzi saying, “We have heard of your teaching, but we have been unable to understand it.”

“This is entirely understandable,” replied the Master, “for my words are deep and full of meaning, though I wish it were not so.” But then, cocking an ear, he said, “But listen, there is one outside who says it better than I.”

Into the silent hall, from the courtyard tree, came the call of a crow, “Caw, caw, caw.”
