Tao Bible - 1 Samuel 15:3

Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.
~ King James Version ~

The sage Lao Tzu reminds us in Verse 67 of the Tao Te Ching that mercy is the first treasure.
~ possible Taoist alternative ~
God instructs King Saul to kill the guilty and the innocent to avenge past wrongs.

When we forsake mercy, we create those who will want to avenge the slaughter. The person of Tao knows to accept when enough is enough and not desire to move beyond that point.
