Tao Bible - Genesis 9:2

And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered.
~ King James version ~

The ten thousand things are straw dogs.

In the Christian conception of the world, as we have already seen, humans occupy the top rung, the head of the class. Consequently, it follows that all other beings are under our dominion.

In the Taoist conception of the world, there is no hierarchy. Tao is impartial. Every species and every element plays an equal role in maintaining the harmony of the cosmos. When one specific species (i.e., homo sapiens) comes to believe it is more important than all the rest, this creates disharmony.
