End of Days, Part 1

The folks over at RealityZone (a new link in the right sidebar) are providing a great service to their readers: They are posting a multitude of articles -- many that I've added to my tumblr blog -- that stress that the oil disaster in the gulf is A LOT worse than we are being told. Several writers, including more than a few scientists, believe there is a strong potential for some type of cataclysmic event to occur, not because of the escaping oil, but due to the release of staggering amounts of methane.

Are some of these predictions off-the-wall crazy? You bet they are! I'm certainly NOT suggesting that you believe every cock-and-bull story that comes down the pike. However, history has proven again and again that some of the prognosticators of major events -- those who leaders brand as crazy fools or delusional rabble-rousers -- far better understood the lay of the land than almost anyone else. Even though their warnings were pooh-poohed by the vast majority, they correctly sized up the situation and offered informed opinions.

So, while a lot of the dire predictions showcased in the articles featured on RealityZone may never come to pass, my bet is that a few of them will -- we won't know which ones until the future manifests itself -- and we will be able to figure who was on target and who was not because of the efforts of the aforementioned blog...well, if any of us are still around!!
