In the beginning, all things are hopeful. We prepare ourselves to start anew. Though we may be intent on the magnificent journey ahead, all things are contained in this first moment: our optimism, our faith, our resolution, our innocence. The moment I read this passage I thought of baseball. Yes, baseball!
~ from 365 Tao: Daily Meditations, Entry 1 ~
Every season during Spring Training, the players, coaches and fans of each team believe this could be THEIR year. The team will win far more games than they will lose and, ultimately, be World Series champs.
It never matters how atrociously they played the previous season or how they collapsed down the stretch run. It doesn't matter that their roster hasn't improved significantly. It doesn't matter if this year's schedule is advantageous or not. It doesn't matter if their name happens to be the Chicago Cubs!!
No, during Spring Training, the promise of a winning season dances like sugar plums in everybody's head.
But then the season starts and the Chicago Cubs play like the Chicago Cubs!
Just wait until next year! ;-)
